Bio: Anil K. Gupta is The INSEAD Chaired Professor of Strategy at INSEAD and is based at the Institute’s Asia campus in Singapore. He is also the Michael Dingman Chair in Global Strategy & Entrepreneurship (on leave) at the Smith School of Business, The University of Maryland at College Park. He received a doctorate from Harvard Business School, an M.B.A. from the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad, and a B.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur. Gupta also serves as chief advisor to The China India Institute, a Washington DC-based research and consulting organization.

Gupta is the author, coauthor, or coeditor of over seventy papers and four books: Getting China and India Right (Jossey-Bass/Wiley, February 2009), The Quest for Global Dominance (Jossey-Bass/Wiley, 2008), Smart Globalization (Jossey-Bass/Wiley, 2003), and Global Strategy and Organization (John Wiley, 2003).

Gupta is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence in research and teaching including the Glueck Best Paper Award in Business Policy and Strategy from the Academy of Management, Best Paper (Runner-Up) Award from the Academy of International Business, the Allen J. Krowe Award for Excellence in Teaching (two-time winner) from The University of Maryland, campus-wide recognition as a Distinguished Scholar-Teacher from The University of Maryland, and the Broderick Prize for Excellence in Research from Boston University’s School of Management. He has been inducted into the Academy of Management Journals’ Hall of Fame, ranked by Management International Review as one of the “Top 20 North American Superstars” for research in strategy and organization, and recognized by Business Week as an Outstanding Faculty in its Guide to the Best B-Schools.

Gupta has served on the editorial boards (including as Guest Editor) of several premier journals including Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies, Information Systems Research, and European Business Forum.

Gupta serves regularly as a keynote speaker at major conferences and corporate forums in the United States, Europe, China, and India. He is a regular columnist on “Getting China and India Right” for BusinessWeek. His opinion pieces have also been published in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Chief Executive Magazine, The Daily Telegraph, China Daily, Economic Times, and other outlets. He has also been quoted by The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, USA Today, BusinessWeek, BBC, CNBC as well as other leading media in the U.S., China, India, and Europe.
