Bio: Attila Yaprak is a professor of marketing and international business and director of the doctoral programs in the Ilitch Business School at Wayne State University. He has served as the the associate dean for research at Ilitch, and as the Executive Secretary of the AIB. As AIB’s Executive Secretary, he managed the AIB Secretariat and AIB’s Brussels (1992), Maui (1993), and Boston (1994) conferences. He is the AIB Historian and chairs the AIB History Committee and is a member of AIB Northeast’s Advisory Board.

Attila holds a Ph. D. degree from Georgia State University (1978) and MBA (1973) and BS (1971) degrees from Indiana University. His research focuses on the social psychology of consumer behavior, global branding, and emerging market enterprises (EMNEs).

Attila’s research has been published in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of World Business, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Advertising, Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review, International Business Review, Management International Review, Journal of International Management, Political Psychology, Journal of Product and Brand Management, and Journal of Consumer Marketing, among other journals. He co-edited the Handbook of Emerging Market Multinational Corporations (2015), Globalization, the Multinational Firm and Emerging Economies (2000), and co-authored Conducting Market Research for International Business (2009). In 2018, he was listed as one of the top 25 contributors to international marketing knowledge among 2,333 authors in the top six international business journals over a 20-year period (1995-2015). His dissertation was a finalist for the AIB’s Farmer Dissertation Award (1979).

Dr. Yaprak has been a member of the editorial review boards of the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Marketing, International Marketing Review, International Business Review, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Asia-Pacific Business, and Journal of Global Marketing. He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Product Innovation Management, and Journal of Operations Management. He has co-edited special issues of several journals, and was an Outstanding Reviewer at JIBS (2022).

Dr. Yaprak is the recipient of many teaching awards, including the AMS Outstanding Marketing Professors Award (2007), the Ilitch Inspirational Professor Award (2017) and the Wayne State University President’s Teaching Excellence Award. He has held visiting professorships and worked with doctoral students in Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Spain, and Turkey and has consulted for the International Trade Center (WTO) in China, Nepal, Thailand, and the Philippines.
