Bio: Saeed Samiee is the Collins Professor of Marketing and International Business in the Collins College of Business at the University of Tulsa. Prior to joining TU, he was Professor of International Business at the University of South Carolina (1986-1993). He has also taught at Rutgers, Kent State, and Notre Dame. He has taught or served as a visiting scholar at business schools internationally, and has held visiting professor positions at Korea University, Seoul, Nottingham University Business School, Ningbo, ESC Pau, and Hanken, Helsinki, among others. He has also served as the Gambrinus Distinguished Fellow, Universität Dortmund.
Professor Samiee’s main area of interest is international marketing, a topic on which he has published in such scholarly outlets as the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of International Marketing, California Management Review, among others. He is an editor (marketing) for JIBS and Associate Editor for marketing and international business for the Decision Sciences Journal. He serves or has served on the editorial review boards of a dozen journals in marketing and international business including Journal of Marketing, JIBS, and Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science; and has been recognized in this role on multiple occasions with best reviewer award, most recently in 2019. Professor Samiee is the recipient of the Significant Contributions to Global Marketing Award (Lifetime Achievement Award) from the American Marketing Association’s Global Marketing SIG in 2017. In 2015, he shared the Excellence in Global Marketing Research Award from the Global Marketing SIG for his 2006 co-authored article “Strategy Fit and Performance Consequences of International Marketing Standardization,” published in the Strategic Management Journal. He is the recipient of TU’s Excellence in Research Award on three occasions and has been recognized for his teaching and mentoring. He has also received the Outstanding Professor Award from the University of South Carolina.
Professor Samiee initiated the Academy of Marketing Science Dissertation Competition (now the Mary Kay, Inc. Dissertation Award) and served as its first chairperson (1978, 1979). He was the inaugural chair of the committee for AIB Best Paper Award (now AIB/Temple Best Paper Award) and Haynes Prize (now Alan M. Rugman Young Scholar Award), 2002-2004, and currently serves on the AIB Membership Committee.
He received his B.S. from Brigham Young University, M.B.A. from California State University-Long Beach, and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.
