Overview

WAIB and Palgrave Macmillan are working together to encourage more women into authoring and editing academic books. Key to expanding our understanding and exploring new avenues for research is to hear from a range of voices around the globe. And yet the field of international business does not offer an adequate balance of female and diverse voices. With this series of workshops we seek to understand the challenges that women face in the world of academic book publishing and try to address them. We aim to demystify the publishing process and help you connect with experienced female authors.


Workshop Facilitators & Presenters

Dana Minbaeva, Facilitator: King’s College London, UK

Dana Minbaeva is a Professor of Human Resource Management at King’s Business School. King’s College of London, UK. She also has a part-time appointment at Copenhagen Business School, Denmark. Her research on strategic international HRM has appeared in such top international journals as Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, Human Resource Management, and many others. Professor Minbaeva published over 50 articles in international peer reviewed journals, numerous book chapters and reports.  She received several national and international awards to research achievements, including the prestigious JIBS Decade Award 2013. Professor Minbaeva is the AIB Fellow and currently serves as a Vice-President Administration at the AIB Executive Board and a President of Women in AIB.

Liz Barlow, Facilitator: Palgrave Macmillan, UK

Liz Barlow is the Publisher for Business & Management books at Palgrave Macmillan, where she oversees the Business and Management commissioning team across Europe and the US. She champions rigorous and cutting edge research that contributes to our understanding of how businesses evolve as well as their relationships with customers, employees and society. She publishes across a variety of formats including monographs, edited collections, textbooks, handbooks, Open Access, major reference works and Palgrave Pivots, as well as books for practitioners. Liz has over a decade of experience publishing business books; prior to her role at Palgrave she was Commissioning Editor at Kogan Page.

Irina Surdu-Nardella, Panelist:
The University of Warwick, UK

Irina Surdu-Nardella is a Reader of International Business Strategy at Warwick Business School, Strategy and International Business Group. Her current research agenda focuses on the international growth and subsequent investment strategies of multinational enterprises, with a particular interest in the subsequent investment, exit and re-entry strategies of these firms. Irina is part of a project that currently looks at the challenges and extreme uncertainties that foreign subsidiaries face in the UK. More recently, she has become involved in research examining the organizational outcomes of corporate social irresponsibility in different international markets.

Dr. Irina’s research has appeared in journals such as Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, International Business Review, California Management Review, Multinational Business Review, Journal of International Management and British Journal of Management. Over the last few years, this research has won multiple awards at International Business conferences such as Academy of International Business UK-I, British Academy of Management and European International Business Academy. Aside from my research projects, her roles include Associate Editor of Multinational Business Review and part of the Editorial Board of Journal of International Business Studies and Global Strategy Journal.

Irina is co-Editor of Crisis and Disruptions in International Business (Palgrave Macmillan, 2022) and Contemporary Issues in International Business (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018)

Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez, Panelist: Universidad EAFIT, Colombia

Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez is a Full Professor of Management at Universidad EAFIT, Colombia. She was the Vice-President of Administration at the Academy of International Business (AIB) (2015-2018), the regional chapter chair for Latin America and the Caribbean (AIB-LAC) (2018-2021), and a board member of the AIB Shared Interest Group (SIG) on Emerging Markets from 2022. In addition, she is Area Editor of the Cross-Cultural and Strategic Management (CCSM) Journal; Associate Editor of Transnational Corporations; and Editor-in-Chief of the business journal AD-minister. Her research areas are internationalization of firms from emerging economies, corporate sustainability; corporate social responsibility; and sustainable development.

Maria Alejandra is co-Editor of The Palgrave Handbook of Corporate Sustainability in the Digital Era (2021), The Palgrave Handbook of Experiential Learning in International Business (2015), The Palgrave Handbook of Learning and Teaching International Business and Management (2019), International Business in Latin America (2016) and author of Business, Government and the SDGs (forthcoming), all published by Palgrave Macmillan.
