Peter J. Buckley and Mark Casson AIB Dissertation Award
Eligibility: This award is open to members who have successfully defended their dissertation with an international business focus during the 2020 calendar year. Applicants for this award must submit a nomination packet via our online submission system by 12pm (UTC) on May 31, 2021.
Overview: Our premier award for superior doctoral dissertations is named in honor of AIB Fellows Mark Casson and Peter J. Buckley for both their pioneering development of internalization theory and their ongoing influence on the work of emerging IB scholars. The winner will receive both a commemorative and a $1,000 cash prize. Furthermore, all award finalists receive a stipend to allow them to present their research at the AIB Annual Meeting.
Application: The nomination packet should include: (1) a letter of nomination from the student’s thesis/dissertation supervisor or chair and (2) an abstract, not exceeding 1,250 words (approximately 5 pages at 250 words per page), of the successfully defended thesis or dissertation. The abstract should describe the objective of the doctoral research, along with its theoretical foundation, relation to previous research, methodology, findings, limitations, and contributions to the field of International Business. The criteria for the award are relevance and contribution to the field of International Business, quality of the theoretical framing and the methodology, and quality of the empirical work (where relevant).
Submission: Before submitting your nomination packet, please verify that it is properly formatted. The title page of your abstract should include your current affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number, the name of the institution where the Ph.D. or D.B.A. was obtained, the name of your thesis advisor, and six keywords describing the topic of your dissertation. The entire packet should be saved as a single document file.

UNCTAD-AIB Award for Research on Investment and Development
Eligibility: This award is open to PhD students and early-career researchers with no more than five years of full-time work experience. Applicants for this award must submit a previously unpublished paper with an explicit focus on policy and international development by May 14, 2021.
Overview:The UNCTAD Division of Investment and Enterprise (DIAE) and the Academy of International Business (AIB) have jointly established an award for the best young academic research work on international investment and development. Winners of this award receive a certificate of recognition at the AIB Annual Meeting, an invitation to apply for a three-month consultancy contract with UNCTAD’s Division of Investment and Enterprise, and an invitation to publish their award-winning paper in the peer-reviewed UNCTAD journal Transnational Corporations.

Application: Eligible papers should meet the following criteria: (1) Original and innovative research; (2) Topical issues with a discussion of policy implications; (3)Focus on development (i.e. how to ensure that international investment and multinational enterprises contribute to sustainable development). The paper must not have been previously published. Co-authorship is permitted provided all authors meet the stated conditions.
Submission: Award submissions must meet the following criteria: have a word count not exceeding 12,000 words (inclusive of appendices, references, and all material); follow the Transnational Corporations guidelines for contributors; include the author(s)’s CV and an abstract not longer than 300 words.

AIB Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Award
Eligibility: This award is open to members who have been accepted to participate in our Sheth/AIB 2021 Doctoral Consortium.
Overview: All proposals accepted by the Doctoral Consortium Committee are evaluated based on the originality and theoretical foundations of the work, the rigor and soundness of the proposed method, and the potential contribution and impact of the proposal in advancing the field. The winner(s) receive both a commemorative and a monetary award.
Temple/AIB Best Paper Award
Eligibility: This award is open to members who have had a paper accepted for a competitive session at our Annual Meeting.
Overview: One finalist from each track is nominated by the track chairs based on reviewer input and the track chair’s assessments. An independent Best Paper Award committee reviews the finalist and chooses the winning manuscript. Announced at the Awards Session on the last day of the conference, the author(s) of the winning manuscript will receive both a commemorative and a monetary award.
Alan M. Rugman Young Scholar Award
Eligibility: This award is open to members under 40 years of age who have had a paper accepted for a competitive session at our Annual Meeting.
Overview: Finalists are nominated by the track chairs based on reviewer input and their own assessments. An independent Rugman Young Scholar Award Committee reviews the finalists and chooses the winning manuscript. Announced at the Awards Session on the last day of the conference, the author(s) of the winning manuscript will receive both a commemorative and a monetary award.
FIU/AIB Best Theory Paper Award
Eligibility: This award is open to all members who have had a paper with a strong theory development focus accepted for a competitive session at our Annual Meeting.
Overview: One finalist from each track will be nominated by the track chairs based on reviewer input and their own assessments. An independent award committee will evaluate the nominees. Announced at the Awards Session on the last day of the conference, the author(s) of the winning manuscript will receive both a commemorative and a monetary award.
Best Reviewer Award
Eligibility: This award is open to all members who have served as a reviewer for our Annual Meeting.
Overview: Each year, the Program Chair and Track Chairs identify those reviewers that have gone above and beyond the duty of reviewing manuscripts for the conference in providing quality, constructive feedback to the authors. The recipients of the Best Reviewer Award receive a certificate of recognition, are recognized in the Conference Program, and are highlighted during the Awards Session on the last day of the conference.
“That’s Interesting!” Award
Overview: Sponsored by Aalto University School of Business, this award recognizes the conference paper that most effectively pushes the boundaries of our existing knowledge in the field by crossing boundaries, challenging taken-for-granted assumptions in the field, denying old “truths”, attracting the reader’s attention, and making an original argument. The author(s) of the winning manuscript will receive a plaque and a cash award at a Coffee Break sponsored by Aalto University School of Business at the conference.
Best Paper Award in Emerging Economies Research
Overview: Sponsored by the International Business program at Bryant University, this award is given to the best paper accepted to a competitive session at the AIB Annual Meeting with a research focus on Emerging Economies. The author(s) of the winning manuscript will receive a certificate and a cash award at a Coffee Break sponsored by Bryant University at the conference.
Best Research Methods Paper Award
Overview: Sponsored by University of Sydney Business School, this award is given to the best paper accepted to a competitive session at the AIB Annual Meeting that develops and/or utilizes innovative and non-traditional methodological approaches to investigate pertinent international business phenomena; advances international business methodology; provides creative methodological solutions to important international business problems; and/or informs scholars in international business and beyond about methodological advancements. The author(s) of the winning manuscript will receive a certificate and a cash award at a Coffee Break sponsored by University of Sydney Business School at the conference.
CUIBE Award for Best Paper on International Business Education
Overview: Sponsored by the Consortium for Undergraduate International Business Education (CUIBE), recognizes the best paper focused on undergraduate international business education being presented at the AIB Annual Conference. To be eligible the papers must have been submitted and accepted for presentation for the Special Track on Teaching International Business, and then shortlisted by the track chair as a nominee for the award. The winner receives the award at a Coffee Break sponsored by CUIBE.
WAIB Best Paper Award
Overview: This award recognizes the best paper focused on increasing gender awareness in international business research. To be eligible the papers must (1) be complete and finalized works that have not been accepted for publication; (2) be accepted for presentation at the annual AIB conference; (3) explicitly analyze women and/or gender as a key topic within the paper; and (4) have at least one author who is a member of WAIB. The winner receives the award at a Coffee Break sponsored by WAIB.
Submission: Eligible papers must be submitted to WAIB’s Academic Research Officer, Amir Shoham, at tud20698@temple.edu, using the subject heading “WAIB Best Paper Award” by March 10th, 2021. The winning paper will be selected by an awards committee and the author(s) will be announced at the upcoming AIB Annual Meeting and through all WAIB electronic communications: WAIB-L listserv, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
