What are the Current COVID-Related Requirements for AIB 2022?

COVID-related travel policies are subject to change over time and are likely to continue to do so in the lead-up to our Annual Meeting. To make sure you are up-to-date on all current air travel requirements, we recommend consulting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website as they update their information regularly. Of particular note are their guides for domestic air travel within the US and international air travel into the US.

For members residing outside the United States and requiring a visa for entry, we strongly recommend you begin your application as soon as possible since processing times are likely to be significantly longer than they were pre-pandemic. Members who need an invitation letter for their visa application can request a Letter of Invitation (login to AIB member portal required).

We are currently working with our conference venue to finalize on-site COVID policies and recommendations. These will be communicated regularly to all of our conference registrants as the event dates draw nearer, along with any needed updates or changes. For a more general overview of safety measures which all Miami-area hotels, restaurants, and businesses have been encouraged to follow, please consult these Travel Guidelines, provided by the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau.

How Can I Get From the Airport to the Hotel?

Ride-sharing services like Lyft and Uber usually charge around $20-27 for a ride from the Miami International Airport to our conference venue, the Intercontinental Miami Hotel. If you’re in a hurry, though, taxis are typically standing by outside the airport.

If you’re willing to take the time to book your rides in advance, SuperShuttle is another cost-effective transportation option. It could also be a great way to meet some of your AIB colleagues while you travel!

Finally, if you’re using the nearby Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, your best bet will be to book a ride on the Go Airport Shuttle—an extremely reasonable price compared to the typical cost of an Uber or taxi.

How do I Get Around Town?

While Lyft and Uber are popular options for booking direct trips to travelers’ destinations-of-choice, Miami also offers a variety of affordable public transportation options, providing access to all the city’s major neighborhoods and the surrounding areas.

Our primary conference venue and official lodging option for AIB 2022 is the InterContinental Miami Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Miami. This location provides direct access to the city’s most budget-friendly public transportation service, the Metromover, a completely free travel option that makes regular loops around downtown’s most popular sights.

If you’re planning an excursion to other areas of the city, we recommend reading this comprehensive guide to Miami’s public transportation options, provided by the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

What Can I Find Within Walking Distance of the Conference?

Grocery stores, dry cleaners, restaurants, and even medical care can be found less than a mile from our official conference hotel—this handy guide tells you how to find all the closest options.

The “Things To Do Nearby” section in of this Intercontinental Miami guide also includes a sortable list of all the most highly recommended local businesses and attractions.

Where Should I Go to Enjoy the City?

Other than our Gala Event? You’re in luck because Miami has plenty of entertainment to offer, whether you’re into sports and the outdoors or museums and fine dining. This online guide is packed full of tourist-friendly recommendations and it’s easily sortable by both location and activity type.

Of course, Miami is known worldwide for its beautiful beaches. If you prefer to lounge in the sun or go surfing between conference sessions, you can find the perfect stretch of shoreline to suit your needs in this comprehensive beach overview.

What Else Should I Know to Prepare for My Trip?

If you’ve traveled to a major American city before, you probably know to bring the basics: US dollars or a widely accepted credit/debit card, a type A or B plug adaptor, a thirst for adventure, etc. If you’re sensitive to heat, you may want to bring some lighter weight professional outfits since average outdoor temperatures in July range from 78-87° F (26-30° C).

Although Miami’s official language is English, around 60 percent of the city’s population speaks Spanish—great news if you’re more comfortable conversing en Español than Inglés.

Also worth noting: Miami is in the Eastern Standard time zone (UTC/GMT-5), so set your clocks accordingly. Or you could just let your phone do that automatically—your choice.
