What is the Purpose of This Workshop?

In today’s rapidly evolving academic landscape, research impact is more important than ever. Scholars are increasingly expected to translate their research findings into real-world applications, shaping business practices, influencing policy, and engaging with broader audiences. However, achieving meaningful impact remains a challenge for many academics.

This interactive pre-conference workshop at AIB 2025 Louisville is designed to bridge the gap between academic research and impact by providing expert insights and hands-on group work. Whether you are looking to influence business strategy, sustainability practices, public policy, or broader societal outcomes, this workshop will equip you with practical strategies to make your research more impactful.

How Can I Participate in This Workshop?

All current AIB members who are registered to attend AIB 2025 Louisville  are invited to register for this workshop by 13 June 2025. Please fill out our online registration form to provide notice to our workshop organizers about your intention to participate.

How is This Event Structured?

  1. Welcome & Introduction (10 min)
    • Overview of the workshop goals and structure
    • Brief introduction of speakers and participants
  2. Expert Talks on Research Impact (3 x 15 min = 45 min)
    • Hinrich Voss will share best practices as a useful framework for sustainability research and career development.
    • Shaker Zahra will share valuable insights and examples on how research makes real-world social impact.
    • Maria Alejandra Gonzalez Perez will share insights into how sustainability research can be used for educational impact
  3. Group Work: Designing Impact Strategies (30 min)
    • Identifying potential stakeholders (business, government, NGOs, media)
    • Defining pathways to maximize research influence in business, policy, and education
    • Exploring collaborations and funding opportunities
  4. Interim Feedback Session (30 min)
    Groups will briefly present their initial ideas and receive feedback from experts and fellow participants.
  5. Refining Research Impact Plans (30 min)
    Groups will incorporate feedback and refine their impact strategies into actionable plans.
  6. Final Presentations & Discussion (30 min)
    Each group presents its final research impact strategy, followed by expert and peer feedback.
  7. Closing Remarks & Next Steps (5 min)
    • Summary of key takeaways
    • Opportunities for collaboration and further engagement
