SUMMARY:AIB Journals Webinar: International Dimensions of Innovation
DESCRIPTION:register now\n\nDate & Time: 29 October 2026\, 01:00 UTC (View Local Time) \nHosts: Journal of International Business Studies \nPoint of Contact: Carl Fey (cfey@fas.harvard.edu) \nEvent Recording Access: Current AIB members will be able to access a recording of this event in the “AIB Video Archive” section of our login portal. New webinar recordings are typically posted within five business days of the original event date. \n\nEvent Overview: Most executives have making their firm more innovative as a key goal\, but many struggle to reach this goal.  When one adds an international dimension\, this is an even greater issue.  There is lack of clarity about what management practices and organizational structures work best to drive innovation and how national and cultural differences affect this.  It is challenging for MNC’s to understand if and how to locate and distribute their R&D activities around the world.  Firms also need to consider how geopolitical tensions should influence these decisions and if there are strategies to minimize the effect of these tensions. \nNew important players in the innovation space like China are emerging\, and understanding how to respond to and potentially leverage this are increasingly important topics for MNCs to consider.  Likewise\, many Chinese firms find themselves newly equipped with state-of-the-art innovation\, but they need to consider how best to take this forward and further develop in the international arena.  Firms also need to carefully consider who is best to hire to deal with these important initiatives.  Many firms are also increasingly leveraging open innovation\, but we need to know more about when and how this should best be done and how and where MNCs should leverage this.  In short\, many important questions related to international aspects of innovation remain and will be explored in this webinar. \nFollowing an introduction to the webinar by moderator Carl Fey from BI Norwegian Business School and Harvard\, the webinar will include brief presentations of three papers.  After each paper\, there will be an opportunity for the audience to ask a few questions.  Following the presentations\, we will have a panel discussion moderated by Carl Fey.  The panel discussion will discuss questions from the moderator as well as questions from the audience. \n\nARTICLES TO BE DISCUSSED \nKumar\, P.\, Calvano\, F. & Schnatterly\, K. SUMMARY:AIB US Southeast 2026 Chapter Conference
DESCRIPTION:visit event host’s website\nregister now (AIB membership required)\n\nConference Theme: Borders\, Battles\, and Business: Competitive Advantage in a Turbulent Global Environment \nEarly Bird Registration Deadline: 15 September 2026\nRegular Registration Deadline: 9 October 2026\nLate Registration Deadline: 28 October 2026\n \nPoint of Contact: Ru-Shiun Liou\, rliou@ut.edu \nEvent Overview: AIB US Southeast (AIB US-SE) is excited to announce our 2026 annual conference on the theme of “Borders\, Battles\, and Business: Competitive Advantage in a Turbulent Global Environment.” This theme reflects a defining challenge of the contemporary international business landscape. Firms today operate in an era shaped by geopolitical rivalry\, shifting borders\, armed conflict\, economic nationalism\, and rapidly changing regulatory regimes. These forces no longer represent a minor background risk; they directly shape market access\, investment decisions\, supply chain configurations\, talent\, mobility\, and competitive positioning. Understanding how organizations can create\, sustain\, and renew competitive advantage under such conditions is therefore not only timely\, but essential. This theme highlights the strategic tension firms face as they must simultaneously manage geopolitical and security risks\, respond to regulatory and policy uncertainty\, and identify new sources of opportunity amid turbulence. \nHosting this year’s conference in Washington\, DC underscores the centrality of policy\, diplomacy\, and government-business interaction in shaping the global economic environment. The city is home to institutions that shape trade policy\, investment regimes\, sanctions\, development finance\, and regulatory standards with global reach. The city also hosts a dense ecosystem of international organizations\, foreign embassies\, policy think tanks\, advocacy groups\, and multinational firms\, creating a continuous dialogue between public policy and private enterprise. Decisions made in Washington reverberate through global markets\, influencing how firms assess risk\, structure cross-border strategies\, and respond to geopolitical change. This location reinforces the theme’s emphasis on policy engagement\, sanctions and trade compliance\, supply chain resilience\, and the role of firms in contested or fragile environments. Bringing scholars\, students\, and practitioners together in this context highlights the reality that competitive advantage in today’s global economy is increasingly forged not only in markets\, but also through informed and strategic engagement with governments\, institutions\, and the geopolitical forces that define the current operating environment. \nAIB US-SE is one of the largest and most active regional divisions of the Academy of International Business’s thirteen worldwide chapters. AIB US-SE’s annual conference centers on the presentation of the newest ideas in international business to a global audience of academic scholars and business practitioners. The conference is characterized by a strong professional focus\, providing participants with a supportive and collegial platform to discuss and develop their ideas\, as well as an opportunity for mentoring authors to enhance their papers for publication. Over the past years\, AIB US-SE has experienced significant transformation and growth\, becoming an academic meeting of choice for over 200 participants each year.

SUMMARY:AIB Asia Pacific 2026 Chapter Conference
DESCRIPTION:visit event organizer’s website\ndownload registration payment guide\nregister now\n\nRegistration Deadline: 18 September 2026 \nConference Theme: International Business and the 5Rs: Recovery\, Rebound\, Resilience\, Regionalisation and Responsibility \nPoint of Contact: Bradley Barnes (bradleybarnes@ln.edu.hk) \nEvent Overview: As we attempt to navigate through dangerous waters\, the current economic and political climate has probably never been as challenging for international business. The theme for this year’s conference is the 5Rs. First\, businesses are facing difficult times ahead and need to consider their recovery strategies. Likewise\, there is a need to rebound\, i.e.\, spring back after the damaging impact that several wars are inflicting on trade. Third\, the challenge is to maintain resilience through these difficult periods. Fourth\, perhaps regionalization offers a safe haven for businesses to continue to resurrect their international trade efforts\, and finally\, arguably it is important for us to advocate being more responsible for our actions and how we can help contribute to a sustainable future. We welcome papers across all topics and disciplines surrounding international business. In particular\, we invite papers that can further expand on these 5Rs across any aspect of management and business. \nAs usual\, we will accept both competitive papers and works-in-progress from scholars in emerging markets and developed nations throughout the Asia Pacific region. A long-term objective of this conference has been to support early-career scholars and provide them with an opportunity to network with our most senior AIB fellows. This conference will be hosted in a friendly and welcoming manner\, so please plan to join us and expect to enjoy your time!

SUMMARY:AIB Latin America and the Caribbean 2027 Chapter Conference
DESCRIPTION:visit event organizer’s website\ndownload full cfp\nsubmit your work\nConference Theme: Navigating Geopolitical Uncertainty: Entrepreneurship and Internationalization in Latin America and the Caribbean \nFull Paper Submission Deadline (Competitive\, Interactive\, Panels): 30 September 2026\nPre-Conference Submission Deadline (Poster\, PDW\, Doctoral Consortium): 20 November 2026 \nPoint of Contact: Mohamed Amal\, amal@furb.br \nEvent Overview: The 2027 AIB-LAC Conference invites contributions that examine the internationalization of firms from the LAC region\, with particular attention to SMEs\, micro-multinationals\, and Multilatinas. These firms differ in their resource endowments\, organizational capabilities\, and strategic orientations\, yet their trajectories offer valuable insights into how capabilities are developed\, resources reconfigured\, and strategies adapted under shifting institutional and geopolitical conditions. \nBuilding on prior discussions\, this conference revisits the themes of geopolitics\, Multilatinas\, and entrepreneurship\, with a stronger emphasis on entrepreneurial responses to uncertainty. We encourage contributions that explore how firms in Latin America and the Caribbean navigate ongoing global reconfigurations and adapt their internationalization strategies accordingly. SMEs\, micro-multinationals\, and large MNEs are likely to respond in distinct ways\, opening fertile ground for comparative and multi-level analyses. \nAn entrepreneurial perspective offers a promising—yet still underexplored—lens within the international business literature on LAC. Firms in the region face overlapping layers of uncertainty at the local\, regional\, and global levels. Entrepreneurial action may play a critical role in enabling firms to reconfigure and upgrade their resources and capabilities\, enhancing their ability to respond to rapidly changing environments (Zahra et al.\, 2022). The AIB Latin America and the Caribbean 2027 Chapter Conference aims to foster academic debate on these topics and many more affecting international business throughout the region and worldwide.

SUMMARY:AIB Canada 2027 Chapter Conference
DESCRIPTION:download full cfp\nsubmit your work\nvisit event host’s website\n\nConference Theme: Location and the Making of Global Champions under Uncertainty \nPaper Submission Deadline: 31 January 2027\nAcceptance Notifications: 28 February 2027\n \nPoint of Contact: Mary Margaret Licharson\, Mary.Licharson@umanitoba.ca \nEvent Overview: International business scholarship has long asked how firms leverage favorable home-country conditions — strong institutions\, deep capital markets\, proximity to major trade routes — to build advantage abroad. Far less is known about firms that internationalize successfully without those conditions: firms based in smaller\, less central\, or less obviously advantaged locations that nonetheless compete and lead in global markets. \nThese questions take on added urgency in a period of rising geopolitical tension\, trade fragmentation\, and economic uncertainty. Tariffs\, sanctions\, shifting alliances\, and reconfiguring supply chains are forcing firms of every size to rethink where and how they compete internationally — conditions that firms in smaller or less central markets often navigate with fewer resources and less room for error. \nThe 2027 AIB Canada Chapter Conference\, hosted for the first time in Winnipeg\, Manitoba\, at the geographic center of the country\, takes up both questions together. We invite research on how location shapes — and fails to determine — international competitiveness; how firms and ecosystems in smaller or peripheral markets build the capabilities needed to internationalize and to withstand disruption; and how uncertainty\, geopolitical tension\, and economic volatility are reshaping global strategy\, location decisions\, and firm resilience more broadly. The conference welcomes both theoretical and empirical contributions that engage with\, extend\, or challenge existing accounts of location advantage\, internationalization\, and firm strategy amid an increasingly uncertain and reconfiguring global economy.
